The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has reached a major network milestone, surpassing 5 billion cumulative transactions since its launch. Data tracked through XRPSCAN shows the ledger processed more than 5 billion transactions between its launch in 2012 and August 27, 2026, highlighting the network’s long-term activity and continued use.

The milestone comes as the XRP Ledger continues to evolve beyond its original focus on fast payments and settlement. The network is increasingly being used for stablecoins, tokenized assets, decentralized finance and other blockchain-based financial applications, expanding the range of activity taking place on XRPL.

Network activity has also remained significant throughout 2026. Earlier this year, daily transactions on the XRP Ledger climbed sharply, with millions of transactions being processed during periods of elevated activity. This suggests that XRPL usage is continuing to develop even when XRP’s market price is moving in a different direction.

Another important development has been the growth of RLUSD, Ripple’s dollar-backed stablecoin. RLUSD recently surpassed a $2 billion market capitalization, with a substantial portion of its supply issued on the XRP Ledger. The growth of stablecoin activity adds another use case for the network beyond XRP transfers.

The XRP Ledger is also positioning itself for increased institutional activity. Its expanding capabilities around tokenization, lending, automated market makers and other financial applications could allow more traditional assets and financial services to operate on-chain. Recent reporting has highlighted upcoming XRPL upgrades aimed at strengthening these capabilities.

However, reaching 5 billion transactions should not automatically be interpreted as proof that 5 billion individual users or economically significant transfers have occurred. A transaction count measures network activity, but it does not reveal the value or purpose of every transaction. The more important question is how much of that activity represents sustained payments, stablecoin usage, tokenization and institutional settlement.

The 5 billion-transaction milestone nevertheless marks another significant chapter for the XRP Ledger. With activity expanding across payments, stablecoins, tokenized assets and decentralized finance, XRPL’s next phase will depend on whether this growing transaction activity translates into broader real-world adoption and sustained use of the network.
