The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is recording a significant increase in decentralized trading activity, with order-book volume on its built-in decentralized exchange rising 79% year over year during the second quarter of 2026. The volume reached an average of approximately 3.57 million XRP per day, compared with around 1.99 million XRP a year earlier.

The growth is particularly notable because it occurred while the number of accounts initiating order-book trades declined. According to data from Evernorth’s Q2 2026 XRP Liquidity Report, daily trading accounts fell from approximately 1,864 to 1,111. This means the accounts that remained active were, on average, moving substantially larger amounts of XRP.

The average amount traded per participating account increased to roughly 3,217 XRP per day, compared with approximately 1,072 XRP a year earlier. Order-book trading also represented about 81% of DEX activity, up from 54% during the same period the previous year.

The data may point toward a shift in the composition of trading activity on XRPL, although it does not prove that institutional investors have replaced retail traders. A single organization can operate multiple wallet addresses, meaning changes in account numbers cannot independently determine who is behind the increased trading volume.

The rise in DEX activity is occurring alongside broader growth in assets held on the XRP Ledger. Tokenized assets averaged approximately $3.72 billion during Q2, while average RLUSD balances reached about $539 million. Together, these figures brought the value held on the ledger to approximately $4.26 billion during the quarter.

XRPL has also been developing infrastructure aimed at supporting more sophisticated financial applications. Permissioned trading capabilities and other upgrades are designed to provide institutions with additional tools for tokenized assets and regulated markets. Meanwhile, growing RLUSD activity is adding another layer of stablecoin liquidity to the ecosystem.

The surge in XRPL order-book activity highlights the continued evolution of the ledger's trading ecosystem, even as broader crypto participation has faced pressure. With DEX trading, tokenized assets and RLUSD activity developing simultaneously, market participants will be watching whether increased on-chain activity translates into deeper liquidity and greater long-term adoption of the XRP Ledger.
